Life is messy

20120811-114702.jpg

This is the current state of our living room. I could have picked up toys and put away books, vacuumed the rug and hung up the diaper bag…but that wouldn’t be real. Life is messy!
I think I’ve had a hard time coming here and posting because of all of these lifestyle blogs that make everything look so perfect all the time. I start thinking if that I must not be good enough if my life doesn’t look perfect. I have an awesome kid who’s happy most of the time. Hey, he’s 11 months old and teething so yeah he screams when he frustrated or in pain. That’s just how life is. We had a fun time this morning eating apple muffins, watching Thomas and playing with toys. He’s down for his nap now. I could pick up all the toys and clean but you know what? It’s Saturday and I’m going to sit here for just a few more minutes.
As a challenge this week I want you all to take a picture of your “real” life, not the perfect clean and edited blog life photos. If you don’t have a blog, post it to twitter, facespace, instagram or where ever. Because life is real and life is messy!
I hope you all enjoy your weekend. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Farmer’s Market Season

I’ve been waiting for 7 months for the local farmer’s market to begin again. Last night was the 1st of the season. We loaded Squishy into his stroller, leashed up Bean and went!

There wasn’t a huge selection yet, but we found some beautiful veggies and bread! I can’t wait for more fruits to be ready. Oh, and corn!!!
It was a gorgeous evening for a walk!

Today we have Squishy’s 9 month wellness check and we need to go to the grocery store. Hopefully we’ll be able to fit in an afternoon walk too!

Flashback Friday, Happy Mother’s Day!

This weeks post is dedicated to that stylish woman posing with the baby girl. That baby girl was me!

Mom has always been kind, nurturing, loving, stylish, crafty and now that I’m an adult I realize how hilarious she is too! It now amazes me that she and dad raised six kids and kept their sanity.

Mom taught me how to be crafty. She has always been sewing, drawing, writing or creating something yummy in the kitchen. Mom taught me every craft I know, well except for wood working…her and I in a room with power tools may be slightly scary! (haha!) She made homemade pla-dough for us to sculpt and knew if you gave me a pair of scissors and some paper that I could stay busy for hours cutting shapes (I guess I finally learned to cut those shapes out of wool felt and stitch them together, huh Mom?). She taught me to sew, knit, crochet and embroider. If she was baking, she would always hand me my own little piece of dough to work with, I had mini pie pans, rolling pins and the like to make my own creation. I have always known that if I had a few supplies I could make just about anything because of her.

Thanks Mom, I love you!

~Mom’s Pla-Dough Recipe~

1 Cup Flour

1/2 Cup Water

2 Tbs Oil

Mix together and enjoy!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

*Oh and a note to my awesome 5 brothers and sisters…Get your own blog! This is *my* latest feeble attempt to be Mom’s favorite! Hahaha!

Desktop Feltidermy and how they came about!

Lions and tigers and feltidermy, Oh my!

I know I’ve been a bit absent from the blog again the past couple of weeks, but now you can see one reason why. Alright, yes, I’ve also been enjoying the spring we’ve been having…but also creating! For about the last week the new desktop feltidermy pieces have had most of my attention.

The desktop felidermy came about from a custom request. The request was for 2 tigers (pictured above) looking like they are leaping out of the plaque. Well, of course I loved this idea, but I had to figure out how to make it work. I spent a couple days just researching images of tigers leaping, jumping, diving and well anything but standing still. After I finally had that stuck in my head I started building my pattern, once I had it ready all I had to do was get to cutting and stitching. I started stitching the first tiger and the shape was exactly what I wanted, they were just a bit small for the size I needed.

*light bulb moment*

Desktop Feltidermy!

Now I just had to figure out how to make them stand on their own. Notice how I said “just” haha… I thought about how to make them stand as I was stitching, browsing the hardware store, walking the dog, cooking dinner, watching the new season opener of Doctor Who, I think even while sleeping. I finally did figure it out and I was still able to attach the plush to the wood as usual, the stand just cover my hardware for attaching. Believe me, these guys and their stands are not separating!

So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to…Now to hope that everyone else loves them as much as I do! You can find them in my Etsy shop.

I hope you are all having a great week! Thanks for stopping by!
