Not so good with resolutions…

I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m just not good with resolutions. I made a New Years resolution to get back to blogging. Well, here it February and I’m just now doing my first post of the year. I think maybe I made to many resolutions this year. Blogging, healthier eating, concentrating on the shop and getting it stocked again. I’m happy to admit that I have not been doing too badly on my second and third resolutions. I’m making better choices when it comes to what I put into my mouth. I’ve also been very busy stitching up a storm, trying to get my shop stocked up after the Christmas craziness.

What were your resolutions this year? I would love to hear them!

Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you soon! No, really!

Southwest Flavors

I have a new recipe for you today! I get so tired of spending so much money on prepackage food. Besides having to spend so much on such a small amount of food, you really can’t be that sure of what all is in it. There are some Southwest Rice Patties that I really like from Morning Star brand, but a package cost $4.99 for 4 patties! I much prefer making up food from scratch at home…it really is less expensive and I know exactly what is in my food. Most of these ingredients are ones that I keep on hand in the pantry anyway.

~Southwest Black Bean Patties~

1 cup brown rice

2 cups chicken stock…I like to make my own and keep it in the freezer

1Tbs Olive Oil, plus more for cooking up the patties later

1/2 of 1 small onion, diced

1 Large clove garlic, minced

1 can black beans, drained and rinsed

3-4 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp. chili powder

dash of cinnamon

salt & pepper to taste

1/2 can  corn with chilis, drained

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1 beaten egg……this is used for a binder, vegans if you know of something else that could be used, please let us know. ūüôā

Heat 2 cups of stock with brown rice until boiling. Once boiling, cover and turn down heat to low and cook for 25-30 minutes depending on your rice. When cooked, fluff and turn out into a large bowl to cool.

Next: Heat olive oil in a frying pan on med/low heat, add onions and cook til transparent, about 3 minutes. Add garlic, black beans and spices, mix well and cook for a few minutes. Add corn and salt & pepper to taste.

Mix all together and add to cooling rice. Let set for just a few minutes to cool further. Mix in your bread crumbs and beaten egg.

Form with damp hands into patties. This recipe will make 11-12 patties.

Cook these a few at a time, for a few minutes on each side, until golden brown.

swcookingpattiesWe like to eat these on warmed wheat tortillas with fresh spinach, cheese, sour cream and salsa. 1 to 1/2 patties per person is plenty for a satisfying dinner.

swpattieontortillaYou could serve these anyway that sounds good to you! Avocado on these is delicious!

There are so many other possibilities for this once you have the basics of this recipe. It all depends on what you want. Another plus of this recipe is that it really didn’t cost that much to make. It cost under $4.00 and made enough patties that we were able to freeze 8 patties after feeding the 2 of us. Now we have an easy go to dinner ready to heat up in a pan any night of the week.

Now, for one more southwest flavor today…There is a turquoise jackalope feltidermy in the shop today!

Present to a peaceful hunters?

This was translated from another page that I found one of my feltidermy featured on. I found it through Google on Metrobloggen – Presentgurun, another Swedish site!

Which when translated in Google translate says: Present to a peaceful hunters?

A sm√•rolig gift to the hunter – or the hunter’s children! — Are “trophies” of felt, mounted on sturdy plates, just like hunting trophies should be. These can be bought or specialbest√§lla of Girl Savage for around $ 30 and up.

I have added a couple new Feltidermy to the shop this week. Jackalope 24 Feltidermy

and Bookish Mouse 6 Feltidermy.

I also added a new Plush today!

Emmet the Embossed Felt Deer is now waiting for a new home! He was stitched from royal blue, embossed felt and couldn’t be any cuter!

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by! which in Swedish, according to Google translate is: Ha en trevlig dag och tack för att stanna till!

A Couple *Inspired* Ideas

I always love to see what inspires people to create the items of their craft. I thought I would share a couple of mine with you today.

First is the latest jackalope feltidermy.

Jackalope 23 Feltidermys’ inspiration came from one of ArgyleWhales‘ sweet bunnies, Yoshimi. Isn’t she one of the cutest bunnies ever?

I just love her black ears and the rings around her eyes! Of course I had to make her a jackalope in girlsavage style.

Before that I was inspired by Xanadu on Broadway to make a Pegasus! My husband did the revamp on the website, then we went to go see the show. After seeing the pegasus in the show, I just had to come home and make one!

You can find the Pegasus plush here in my shop.

What inspires you to create? Thanks for stopping by! I hope you are inspired to go create something new!

New designs and one not so new…

I am excited to finally have time to work out some new patterns! I had time to work on whales this week, something I’ve been wanting to try for quite some time. Here are my results:

A Very Pleased Plush of a Whale

Whale Feltidermy

They were so fun to design and create, I already have more sea life ideas swimming around my head.

I also had time this week to make a new jackalope plush! Gertie the Green Jackalope was made from some new sea foam green wool blend felt that came in the mail last week. She can also be found in my shop.

I had some excitement yesterday with the Three Blind Mice Feltidermy being chosen by this week’s Etsy Featured buyer, Sonia from I Can Has Cheezburger. This was her suggestion for a use for this Feltidermy:

“Mount it above your cat’s food bowl to show that your pet has a discerning taste in interior decoration. ”

Hilarious, thank you Sonia! You can see the whole article here in the Storque.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a wonderful and safe weekend! For those of you in the States…Happy 4th of July!

A few new faces and some excitement.

A few new faces made it into the shop this week.

Cinder the Wool Felt Little Lamb made his 1st appearance on Monday.

He reminds me of a baby lamb that used to follow me around the farm when I was little. Yes, I had a little lamb and no his fleece was not white as snow, but he was very sweet!

Yes that’s me at 2 with my little lamb, out in front of the house.

There were also a couple new Feltidermy added this week.

Bunny Rabbit 9 and Jackalope 16

A couple new plush were also added, they are already on their way to their new home.

And now for the excitement! Christine and Danielle of Fact&Fancy have invited me to be a part of their 1st show! I sent off a few pieces to be a part of the show! The Wet Paint show will be open from June 1st- July 13th at 75B Hoyt St Brooklyn, NY 11201 Please check it out if you can, I sure would like to get down to see it! It’s the 1st show I’ve participated in, so I’m very excited about it!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

If you have read this blog before or have been in my Etsy shop, you should know of my love for antlers. I wanted to show you a few antlers items today.

The first is a gorgeous necklace that my Mr. gave me for Christmas from loving anvil.

It’s so delicate and beautiful! I also love that it is sort of unexpected to look closer at a necklace and find such a wonderfully detailed buck! Be sure to check this shop out for many beautiful items.

Next item was a treat to myself. I saw this adorable hat at Jack Rabbit and had to have it!

Christine is so talented and yes, I believe that is her modeling the hat. Isn’t she cute! I received it the other day and fell even more in love with this hat. It fits like she made it for me and the detail is awesome! I also have to say that it matches my green wool coat too. Please check out her shop for some really amazing pieces!

Next is the newest jackalope from my shop, Mocha Jackalope.

He is every shade of color you would expect from my favorite morning drink, a mocha latte.

Lastly today is a pair of antlers for my newest custom piece that I will be completing today.

This piece will be a mustard, tan and bone colored version of the jackalope feltidermy- large. I will post photos of it after it is finished.

I hope you all have a great week and thanks for stopping by!
